Here is a 6 minute video taken by a passer-by of a BNSF derailment. There are a couple of explicit words uttered by the camera operator during the event if that matters to you.

So, was the boulder on the track already or did it slide and hit the locomotive, knocking it off the track?

I am not a Civil Engineer, but I would suggest that they blast the rest of those boulders from above the track. They look like they are another accident waiting to happen.

Now was that cop a railfan , or tucked away there to catch the downhill advantage that tends to make marginal speeders real money makers , or both ?

Give the trooper(cop) his due. He had supposedly called in the fact that a huge boulder was on the tracks and was filming that instead of checking for speeders.
