Does anyone on the forum happen to know the diameter of the drivers on the Kato or Micro Ace JNR C-51 to C-55 Pacifics? Driver spacing would also be nice to know.

Thanks,

Here are data.

Kato has not released JNR C51.
10.8mm is 68 scale inches and 11.8mm is 74.3 scale inches.

As you can see, MicroAce C55 driver diameter is 10% smaller than the Kato's.
They don't have the steams with the bigger drivers except their Pashina 979 & 981 of the Manchurian RR.

If you are going to use the MicroAce C55 for your kitbashing, you'd better keep it in mind.

Kato doesn't have the other Japanese prototype steams with the equal or bigger spoked drivers than C55.
The C62 (4-6-4) of the old tooling and the C57 (4-6-2) have the same size of the drivers but they are the box-poked not spoked.

hope this helps.

Thanks for that information, EBIT.

So far, it looks as if I need to decide between drivers that are 6-7" too small with a driver wheelbase only 3" too large (Micro Ace) or drivers that are less than 1" too small with a driver wheelbase 17" too large (Kato). I'll check with the 2mm Scale Association to see if they have plans to offer 11.5 mm drivers (72.4" in N scale) anytime soon. If they were available, they would only be 2.6" too small and could be used in a scratch-built chassis to give a driver wheelbase 2-3" too large. Decisions, decisions!!

Regards,
