Now that 2010 has begun, I've completed my decals for those that want some.

I'll post in the next.

After thinking quite a bit about the 10 pages of discussion from the previous thread, I have come to personally agree that it is the

50th Anniversary of N Gauge (rather than other terminology).

There were a lot of forerunners, but two companies made HUGE contributions.

Lone Star was first in the early part of 1960.

But they were the Betamax, or the 8-track tape, etc. Whether because of their couplers, or marketing, they died.

Arnold was not first, but they had a huge impact on our hobby. They also started in 1960.

People like and respect both companies. And so I made decals for those who want to honor whoever you want to honor. I plan to honor both.

The master kind of drawings are below, but I need someone who can host a MicroSoft Office Word Document. I tried to upload it to Railimages and it would only take image files.

Anyway, that document file has the N scale size jpeg on it for printing 5.5x8.5 Testors decals that you can find at Walmart.

If you can host the file and the bandwidth, I'll send the file to you.

Someone asked a while back what date we pick to celebrate.

Since we Can't know for sure what date that show in Brighton, England was where Lone Star first appeared (unless someone in England looks it up for us in a library)...

I suggest we go by the cover date on the newspaper that Todd posted.

So that was March and let's arbitrarily pick March 1st as a starting point..... But the editors referred to taking the photos of the layout "six days ago."

So since we don't know exactly when the date was, let's just pick .....

February 23rd, 2010 (that was "six days ago" from March 1st)

I know that's not exact, but anything else is a shot in the dark as well.

February 23. A good choice. That's also the date of my mother's and my nephew's birthdays. Things usually happen in threes.

Here's a sample of the decals. My first try came out very well.

The smallest ones are barely readable and the largest ones for a billboard boxcar side are easily readable.

Now I need to cover them to protect the ink from solvaset.
