Kitbash naturally a la Dan Crowley
This shows an S2 shell in the background and an S4 in the foreground (well it's going to be, needs a bit of finishing).
The cab is off an Arnold S2 and the long hood and handrail/sill from an Atlas RS1.
It will be in the paintshop shortly.

Very nice . Another way is to use the Arnold S-2 , and for 24 smackers buy the Ron Beardon designed T-6 which GHQ is selling . Take those sideframes from the T-6 kit and apply them to the S-2 .

I managed to get two Arnold SW1200s for $50. These are the ones that use the same mechinism as the S2. That might be a solution as well. Now what are you using as a mechinism? Obviously it can't be the S2.

Why use the RS1 hood? what are the differences between that, a real S4 and the S2?

Goodbye and good luck.

RS1 hood and S-2 are identical. The whole exercise is an illustration showing how you can kitbash an S-2 from parts from the Atlas parts department.

I cheated because I cast the original Arnold hood to get the right look for Santa Fe. The RS1 cab wasn't quite right according to some of my prototype photos (the windows on the left side)or I would have done everything the same as Dan.
It also means I can use an Atlas mechanism and get a very smooth running loco.

Well Dan tried out the MP15DC, so I thought I'd use that. If I can use the sideframes from the T6 I can graft those onto the side of the standard GP trucks that the MP15DC has.
I just have to file a bit off the shell.
