What industrial locations, besides a grain elevator, are there where you would be likely to see numerous grain hoppers ?

A flower mill comes to mind but there must be others. Anyone have some photo references ?

Flour mills, feed lots, breweries, ethanol plants, corn syrup producers, ports, animal feed factories, possibly seed processors.

It came to pass...

Our club layout requires a regular shuttle service of covered hoppers between the grain elevator to the brewery.

My decision is maybe and that's final!

How about a railcar to barge transfer facility and how about a little used outpost yard or siding for storage during other than harvest/peak shipment times.

You said "grain hopper" and that sort of restricts it to grain, right? But covered hopper is somewhat broader.
Flour is frequently carried in covered hoppers but in Airslide (tm) covered hoppers that are different from "grain hoppers".
Plastic pellets are shipped in covered hoppers from chemical plants to extrusion and casting plants that make things out of plastic.
Portland cement is carried in covered hoppers. Usually 2-bay hoppers will hold all the weight you want to put on the rails.
Carbon black is carried in covered hoppers, although a slightly different design than the common models. I am planning to finish a kitbash of one someday. Will require custom decals.

Good observation! i used to drive past a seed factory in Collinston, Utah, that was on the UP main line between Ogden and Pocatello, Idaho. The building was a moderate size, perhaps 200 feet long, and always had one to five covered hoppers at the back loading doors.

I forget the big place you see HUGE quantities of grain hoppers-- the export elevator at a port. Grain is often received from farmers at "country elevators" in farming area and shipped in market season to move in shipload to world markets.
Some big export elevators unload 120 hoppers a day or more.

Construction article for export grain elevator for MR&T layout Model Railroader Nov86 p.78

export elevator I modeled w dowels on a 2’x 4’ “quick layout” for kids

more "finished" model of export elevator head house on a club layout. Silos from PVC pipe were added alongside headhouse to finish.
