This is one unusual locomotive that I would like to see in N Scale. Even though a minimal number were produced, I think the argument could be made by the number of paint schemes that these have worn over the years.

Original purchase (from memory):

ATSF - 10
SP - 4
UP - 6 or 8(?)
SOU - 3

However, over the years you have the following paint schemes for these baby SD45's (looks anyway):

1) ATSF - yellow and blue warbonnet
2) ATSF - SPSF merger scheme
3) SP - Gray and scarlet
4) UP - shield on cab
5) UP - shield on nose, different numbers from 9000 series to 90 series.
6) SOU - tuxedo (High nose)
7) NS - Thoroughbred (High nose)
8) TPW - Rail America
9) BNSF - ATSF Patch
10) BNSF - Heritage I
11) St. Lawrence & Atlantic - GW Family Scheme
12) St. Lawrence & Atlantic - Yellow/black scheme

Although these are rare units (I've only seen 3-4 in my life) I would love to have some for my 1980's and 1990's ATSF layout.

Anyone else interested?

Any schemes that I might have missed?

IMHO - The rarest loco that I would love to see in N Scale (in plastic) that I probably won't see.

I would get a couple of them myself. One of my favorites, especially in Santa Fe warbonnet. :)

If you are referring to the GP40X, it would require a least 3 different shells as the SR (high hood) and SP (L shaped windsheild) units were unique to thise roads.

I think that there is more to models then prototype populations. Some of the best runs in N have been rarities in the real world. the Alco C series and Trainmasters pop in my mind as rare hens in real life but popular in model form.

We like different prtoducts, Items that we may have seen only once or twice, those memories far outweigh the bread and butter equiptment we see every day.
Think back to your childhood. Do you remember every scheme of boxcars the rode by? Nope, but i bet you remember a strange engine or forigion power.

The two SLR (St. Lawrence & Atlantic) units are the ex-NS units, chopped and rebuilt at National Rail in Mexico. They have I believe the dash 2 trucks. Most of the GP40X units had different trucks.

I would love to see this unit done in N scale! Someone is working on the pair for me in N, an awesome project, and as it evolves I am sure you will see pics online (probably on the Railwire) and potentially in print. My favorite modern diesels...

Add one to your GP40X list - Helm Leasing, as HLCX 4300, ex-SP 7230. It's now leased to RailAmerica's San Luis Rio Grande and usually sits around Alamosa, CO, during the day.

As far as models, I have no particular need for one, but they're such an unusual unit I'd have to make place for one, probably the HLCX leaser, since I could explain it away as seasonal power.
