Seems like a good topic to respond to. Lets see... my crystal ball is still foggy and the Tarot Cards were eaten by a sacrificial goat.[:-witch]
The only thing I have left is logic... and that never works. I'm just going to have to 'wing-it' this time.
Well... Atlas has already announce a bunch of stuff... so I doubt they will be offering anything 'explosive' enough to blow the roof off of the Trainfest venue.
Same hold true for Kato... since they 'blew their load' after the iHobby Show in Chicago.
Intermountain is unlikely to announce anything just yet... they have to deal with the Cab-Forward and all those pre-announced passenger cars in their queue.
The No-Brainer call here seems to be the Gas Turbine from Athearn... which is likely one of the two (or three) announcement Charlie is so emphatically giddy to blurt out. Word has it the manufacturers will be tying him down to his bed with duct-tape until after Trainfest .
So... that leave one (or two) more possible candidates. Who have we NOT heard much from lately... Bachmann and Walthers. Hmmmm... Trainfest is in Milwaukee... Walthers backyard. What announcement could Walthers make that would have an explosive impact on the event? Perhaps something they've already done in HO scale... like the Milwaukee Road Hiawatha passenger consist. That would be logical and would be a great #two announcement... but... what if they also make that # three announcement as a Shovelnosed Hudson or Atlantic class lokie to pull the Hiawatha. NOW THAT WOULD BLOW THE ROOF OFF!
Of course... being the pragmatist I am... knowing Walthers has been slow to meet N scales needs and desires since acquiring LifeLike... I'll take a mulligan and predict an N scale H10/12-44 could be their next announcement instead. After-all... I think Milwaukee Road had some of these too.
IN the unlikely event that Walthers continues to disappoint... the only other viable announcemt would be from Bachmann. This could be the locomotive we've been expecting Bachmann to announce since they did one in HO. The TEN-WHEELER... that would also be well received... while perhaps not 'blowing' any roofs off.
I just don't see any 'other' manufacturers coming out with anything special at this time. It 'feels' like this will be the Athearn/Walthers/Bachmann show. [:-star] |

Then to sell a steamer that got around since it was built , UP FEF-3 4-8-4 . Done in HO , a sure winner in N , and long over due IMO .
There are many , " what took so long to do in N " , it's shameful . Kind of like they don't want to make money . |

(muffled voice behind duck tape)
CalZ4 makes some interesting guesses.....
.....but no cigar, at least as regards my posts. He might be correct, and I would be happy if some of it were to happen, but not what I am teasing about.
I have to let my clients and others make their own announcements in their own time. One might not be making it at TrainFest as there is already enough announced new stuff in the pipeline..... but The Biggie will be made in Milwaukee for sure.
I do note, on an unrelated observation, that Bachmann's 44 Tonner has a nice, small motor in it that would easily fit into a Ten Wheeler or Decapod..... and their 50 FT Flatcar with Load is hardly a N Scale 2010 program. Hope springs eternal.

Charlie,
Do you know whether the BIG announcement will be at the Friday night industry session or later over the weekend. I will only be there on Saturday and hope I won't miss all the fun....this better be fun! Hope springs eternal for a FM switcher as I have seen you advocating for this in the past. If so, I will name my third-born child Charlie!
Best wishes, Dave |

Davidone- Your comments fit into my "some interesting guesses.....but no cigar, at least as regards my posts".. category. I don't have any inside insights into the Athearn N Scale program, but your FEF and Turbine are reasonable candidates. I hope they will have some news in Milwaukee as Athearn has pretty much delivered all the new stuff promised.... .....and, for Dave Schneider. one can only hope Walthers/LifeLike (or SOMEBODY!!!) will give us H10-44 and H12-44 Switchers in N!! I don't think any manufacturers are going to hold anything back, so most news will be out by Friday night.... so only a week to sit on pins and needles!!! Charlie Vlk |

So Charlie , if you haven't an idea of Athearn , and you appear not to have the inside on Walther's , this is about Kato , a firm that IIRC you do , or did have some connection . Then there is MP , and the Bachmann . Given the 3 , a roof raising event is more likely done by Kato .
Unless the news is the marring or buying out of 2 manufacturers , with the whoopydoo being an overall changed product line for the better , or even worse .
I hope the roof raising event isn't a cutesy way to hint at a lame excess height boxcar being offered that is out of my era .
You have successfully established a wide era interest , and probably like lotto tickets there will no need by most of us to call a financial adviser or buy party balloons .
I am sticking to Kato Milw or GN electrics and some sort of Cat system . |

Prediction? Something that will cause Mr. Wallet to become completely disoriented. I really fear that an Atlas GENSET, Athearn Turbine or Con-Cor DH643 would hospitalize Mr. Wallet... |

UP1950s- Okay. I have to stop playing now. I will say, noooo, it isn't Kato.
I started to play this game around 1964-65 when I started going to the MRIA Show in Chicago with the All Nation Hobby Shop gang. Got pretty good at it..... walking up to a manufacturer and asking "When is the Dome Car coming out?" and watching the reaction from the rep... "....errr, how do you know about that???!!!!"...... "Well, there is a gap in the product numbers between the Baggage, Coach and Observation and you don't have one...yet."
There are a number of manufacturers and playing 20 Questions with me isn't going to work.... at least most of the time.....
....and oh, did I mention the new product (not a locomotive or car) that was mostly developed and designed in my living room that will only come in one bright color that everybody with a layout will want.... and that I have no direct, family or professional involvement in? Maybe it will be announced at TrainFest as well!!!!
Signing off from this thread!!! See you at TrainFest!!!!
