Hi
I searched for this how-to but can't find it. Someone on the forum hardwired two 44 tonners together for better pick up going through switches. Can someone please give me the thread.

Thanks

Rick

Thanks Joe.
Had a brain freeze. That's exactly where I saw it. I have one and my LHS found another so I thought I'd try it. As we use Peco insulfrogs swithces at the club, short engines don't run slowly over the frogs.

Thanks again

Rick

I've actually been able to run my 44-tonner slowly over insulated frog turnouts. But it only works if the wheels and chassis wipers are absolutely spotless.

Fortunately, Bachmann made cleaning things really easy. The trucks pop off readily, and once removed I use an alcohol soaked q-tip to clean the wipers and then run the wheels over a paper towel soaked in cleaning fluid sitting on top of a short section of flex track.

My experience is that, unlike larger diesels, performance goes to hell pretty rapidly on these things if you don't clean them regularly.

Cheers,
-Mark

This is probably the biggest area our locomotive manufactures have failed we the operator’s of N-Scale locomotives.

They’ve given us DCC. They’ve given us Super Detailed shells. They’ve given us Sound yet the one thing that would improve over the rail reliability has been sadly overlooked.

The ability to electrically MU two or more locomotives together.

Whether DC or DCC this would be a boon for us all.

It's been done in N scale, but only once that I know of. The 1994 Minitrix Amtrak ICE train has some amazingly cool metal couplers that actually transfer current from one unit to the next. It's totally wizard -

Your welcome, Rick. I just tried that technique with my pair of Atlas GP-15's, as that pair run a little crappy, sometimes. Did not work well.
I plan to change over to Peco C55 E/F track over the winter. And wire point and stock rails with a slide switch. I'm getting fed up with bad running, and constant cleaning of wheels and track. This will help, but not eliminate that chore.
Mark, you are spot on about 44T. Runs great one day. The next day or so, ahh, well.
sd90ns, I agree. It would be a great option to have.

I hardwired two of the B-mann six wheel MDT diseasel switchers together. I simply slipped the ends of the wires into the motor poles and ran them down the back of the cab and out. The shell just went back on.

My 44 tonners do not stall on plastic frog switches, but the MDTs do.

Thank you for your consideration and support.

If there are manufacturers of nano connectors then there have to be distributors of those connectors. You should be able to find a distributor who sells smaller quantities. Post some more specific info and maybe we'll be able to find a distributor.
