This may be the most bullish statement made on the future of railroading in a long time.
I have delt with a company like asarge describes above. It was a good company before Warren bought it...and it is still a good company. (It was not a rail, power, or insurance company) Not a place you would find the lowest price...but, very efficiently run. And, obviously making a profit. Not much turn over in staff I might add, which I think is a good sign.
Warren's "bet on the country" is good for BRK.B (50 for 1 stock split), BNI (BNSF), and the USA, IMO.
He also says he will not buy Union Pacific. Oops, sorry Uncle Pete.

| He's already praised the management of BNSF, stated that they're part of the reason he bought it, and said he doesn't plan any major changes. Sounds like it really won't make any difference except on the SEC reports. It is a good sign that a major investor, with a proven track record, thinks the railroad industry is worth a long term investment. It may get others looking at them as a business, not just a buy/loot/sell opportunity, which can't hurt. |

| Warren Buffett buys good companies. Some have BAD management, wheich he gets rid of, others he lets run as is. Mr. Buffett has not gotten where he is and is as rich as he is for no good reason. He knows that BNSF is a well run railraod, otherwise he would not have bought the inital 5 percent a few years ago and now the whole thing. This is VERY GOOD ro the \railrods. |

| Warren Buffet and BH are one of the few if not only companies that have figured it out. This country will die if we believe growth is shareholder value. Buffet believes in creating economic value. The rest will take care of it self. That's how this country got so economically pwerful in the first place. |

| I have heard through the grapevine that all rail will be converted to code 55 and all diesels will be scrapped and new more efficient and powerful steamers brought in to replace them. They will be coal fired which will eliminate oil dependency, stoker fired, state of the art boiler tube design that will not require maintenance for 10 years, smoke eliminators, McHenry couplers, and correct paint and graphics. Warren will then have the worlds largest train layout. |

| After waking up from a five day binge Warren Buffet was heard to say “I bought a real railroad?” “I though it was HO!!” [:-drunk] |

It's taken me 15 years to amass 120 locomotives in N and this guy just bought how many real ones in one day? [:-crazy]
Actually, I believe Warren Buffet likes model trains, so this may be good news for us train lovers. |

| His purchase was a vote of confidence in American railroading. The fact that it's so-called "private equity" that's buying a common carrier makes no difference at all. |

I would agree that Buffet is an example of captalism at its finest, looking at and following the creed of stability and long term economic growth as he runs and acquires BH and other businesses obligations or if not obligations at least the benefits of big business contributing to the greater good as a good corporate citizen rather than just growing the bottom line for the next quarterly report.
I think the investment is good news for the railroads as well a reflection in an astute businessmans confidance in the future of the US economy. Because if we aren't making stuff and buying stuff railroads wont be moving stuff, and WB wouldn't buy unless he saw the likelihood of strong long term performance. |

| He doesn;t buy anything just because he is a fan of it. When you look at the numbers though. BNSF Shareholders are getting a sweet deal. But 5 years from now it will be apparent that BH got the best deal. He had gotten rid mof his stock in all the other railroads except KCS I think it was reported. And even that is a small stake, but he will have to get rid of that also. |

It's a very intelligent deal...Buffet has broken away from his usual custom of paying in cash, and so every day the stock is going up and his actual purchase price for the company is falling.
