John,
Well that sure pushed me out of the shadows. Many years ago I did the same selfish thing when I was touring the country on the powerboat race circuit. Preping engines every night and chasing points all over the map. The idioticy of it all was after the junk hit the fan my hobby interest turned to rubbish. I sold my boats and trashed 12 years of photos and trophys. Why does it take so long to grow up?

Gents, Don,
All I do is watch the Bruins and the Office and maybe two movies a month. It's the 'going here' and 'going there' that kills my time. Have to eat though! There is too much good food out there. ohh yeah, I run a railcar leasing firm too. But what is good is I can just not answer the phone if I don't want to and work on the layout. But that is changing as I grow and needs get bigger. I have to hire someone I guess. We'll see. But working on the layout is pretty cool when it happens.
Seems some have put the hobby in front of everything and have lost in the long run. interesting..

1) Two small (under 7) children, one of whom is Autistic...the "layout room" was reclaimed as my daughter's therapy room...I have no regrets about that...
2) Competing interests...after my Mom passed away in December, I had some major mid-life crisis issues and decided it was now or never regarding starting another band...I'm playing with some great guys, the songs are solid and I'm having fun, so for now, the Punk Rock is giving my train time a run for the money...
3) Spatial constraints...I just don't have the space to do "THE LAYOUT"...on the other hand, I've got enough "air rights" in the therapy/band practice room for a few 1' 1/2" shelves and I think I may dink around with some HO shortline shelf action...cringe away, but it's still model railroading...the wife and I are in agreement that we're going to eventually trade up for something with more space and the gameplan includes a "substantial" basement for the Hi-rail layout, but for now, it seems like HO is gonna be the way to go...
I DO get around the weathering some cars every few weeks and my next project is a mass conversion over to Kadee couplers... |

John,
Were are you from? I am in Massachusetts and hung drywall in my early 20's for two years. If you're local, I'll come over.

Got three kids on one on the way need I say more. LOL I try to get an hour or so in every night after the kids go to bed. I have found that if I get in some time every day no mater how little time thing seem to happen quicker than if I try to devote a whole day on the week end to getting things done.

John,
Google "drywall deadman". We use a 3-4' 2x4 and a less than ceiling height longer 2 x 4 to make a T shaped support to one man hang ceilings. On one job I used an 8' step ladder.
A collated screw gun really helps. tt |

I have two nephews (in their 20s) that are about 6'4" and 300 plus - they just held up my sheets of drywall as I screwed them up! That was nice! If you in the Grand Rapids MI area - I could send them over!

I hopefully solved the wife problem as I built her a sewing room with computer and TV. BUt after a day at work I am in no mood but to sit on my butt and watch TV myself or go on the computer and look for bargins in the O scale world. I used to be so motivated when I was young. What happened?
